This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 4th March

Week Beginning: 4th March 2024

NURSERY

We will be celebrating world book day on Friday 8th March and our book for nursery will be “Each Peach Pear Plum” and the children will have to look closely at the pictures to find the next fairy tale and nursery rhyme character hidden .

For maths we will be playing find the missing number.

The children will also be working on a lovely surprise !!!

RECEPTION

This week the children will be learning about bodies and how it works.They will be involved in lots of activities that will enhance their learning, please see the board outside Reception Class. In maths we shall be using quantity and objects to subtract two single digits. Don't forget that Friday  8th March is our World Book Day, as there is no theme for the children; they can come in dressed as their favorite book character if they wish to.

YEAR 1

This week, in Maths, Year 1 will be halving shapes, halving numbers and telling the time for o'clock and half past.  In English, Year 1 will be continuing with the story of The Lonely Beast and using main clauses to write a wanted poster to help The Lonely Beast find a friend.

YEAR 2

Year 2 will be using arrays to multiply, divide and find fractions of amounts. In English, we will be writing about a real life experience. In History, we will be learning about nurses and hospitals of the past. In RE we will be learning about the greeting in Namaste in Buddhism and in Science, we will be learning about the perfect conditions to grow a plant.

YEAR 3

This week in Year 3 we will be writing our very own non-fiction text all about the stone age. To do this we will be researching facts, looking at examples of non-fiction texts before creating our very own. In maths, we will be working on the grid method for multiplication as well as practicing our times tables as this will help us hugely when solving more complex multiplication problems. Finally, please remember to sign your child's reading record each day. Thank you! 

YEAR 4

In Maths this week, we will be recapping on our Measure knowledge. Over the week, we will be looking at the area and perimeter shapes, converting between different lengths of measure and also converting between analogue and digital time. 

In English this week, we will be focusing on our comprehension skills. This will include un unpicking the text and unpicking specific questions linked to retrieval, inference and vocabulary meaning. 

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we are continuing our work around a short film, focusing on creating atmosphere with our choice of vocabulary. In maths, we will be using our division skills to solve real-life problems and to find fractions of a given amount. In History, we are continuing with our Anglo-Saxon topic and will be learning how some of our local place names derived from that time period. 

YEAR 6

This week, year six will be taking part in their second enrichment day at Kemnal. They will be taking part in DT and ICT activities. In science, we will be observing how the peppered moth evolved. In writing, we are investigating the strange disappearance of Francis. We will work as police officers to gather and write-up witness statements.
