Week Beginning: 11th March 2024

NURSERY

This week in the Nursery our theme will be Superheroes and we will be encouraging the children to expand their imaginations and think about if they were a superhero what superpower would they have.

In maths we will be exploring with  weight and how we can measure.

RECEPTION

This week we shall continue with the theme of our bodies and looking at the function of our organs, lungs, heart, brain etc... In maths we will be subtracting one number from another. 

Friday 15th  March is Comic Relief Day, children can come to school dressed in an item of red  clothing for a small donation. Details have  already  been sent  out to parents.

YEAR 1

In Maths this week, Year 1 will be learning to recognise and know the value of different coins.  We will be adding different amounts of coins to find the total amount.  In English, Year 1 will be writing a diary entry for the Lonely Beast's journey.  Just a gentle reminder to read with your child everyday and sign the reading record every day.  Phonics books need to be in on Thursday every week.  Thank you.

YEAR 2

Year 2 will be testing this week. Alongside this, we will be learning about plants in Science; understanding the five aggregates in RE and learning about the significance of Mary Seacole in History.

YEAR 3

This week in Year 3 we will finish our investigation into whether all plants need the same amount of water. We have been monitoring this for the last few weeks and are eager to discover the results. We will also be continuing with our book Stone Age Boy and will be writing our very own newspaper report that will contain direct speech. We will also be looking at adding and subtracting mass in Maths. Please ensure that your child is learning the spellings and multiplication tables given out on the homework sheet ready for their weekly test. Thank you.

YEAR 4

This week in English, we will be starting a traditional fairy tale story, 'Hansel and Gretel'. Our skill focus for the week will be to use expanded noun phrases (2 adjectives to describe the noun) or modified noun phrases (extra information by including a prepositional phrase).

This week in Maths, we will be focusing on fractions. We will be converging fractions to decimals (1/2 = 0.5) and finding fractions of amounts including decimals (2/4 of £16.28).

YEAR 5

This week in year 5, we will be completing our NTS tests. We will also be looking at percentages in maths. In English, we will be finishing our work around 'Alma' by completing our stories. In science, we will be investigating chemical reactions. In history, we will be learning more about Viking culture.

YEAR 6

This week, we will be using role-play to help us write our television news reports on the mysterious disappearance of Francis Brandywine. In science, we will be observing which characteristics and traits we have inherited from our parents and grandparents. During WW2 the government changed the conscription age and criteria and we are looking at the impact that this had on families.
