Week Beginning: 13th March 2023

This week our new topic will be based upon dental hygiene. We will be exploring how we keep our teeth clean, what foods are healthy and foods to avoid.

There will be a session where we shall be asking children to bring in their tooth brush and tooth paste and practice healthy oral hygiene, Please look out for updates on our board outside the nursery gate.

In Reception this week, the children are carrying on with their topic around Dinosaurs!  We learnt a lot of interesting facts last week after finding dinosaur footprints in our classroom!  We will be using the story 'Stomp, Dinosaur, Stomp' to help our writing.  In Maths, we are continuing to look at subtraction and practise our skills of subtracting one number from another and being able to talk about what we have done.

In English, we are going to start a new book, 'The Lonely Beast'. We will be writing main clauses describing what it likes to do in its free time. We will be extending our sentences with noun phrases (good book, long swim, etc.) and conjunctions (and, so, because).

In Maths, we are going to look at Geometry. We will be exploring how to halve shapes and how to find halves of amounts.

On Friday, 17th March, it is Red Nose Day/Science Day. It will be such a fun day with 4 different investigations to take part in.

Year 2 will be completing their NTS tests this week and then will be starting a new book in English - The Magic Finger. In Maths, we are looking at fractions of amounts. In History, we will be learning about Mary Seacole and in Science we will be learning about how plants grow.

This week in year 3 we will be working on our editing and publishing skills in English. In our maths lessons we will be looking at measure by adding and subtracting grams and kilograms. And don’t forget on Friday we have a whole school science day which is sure to be awesome!

This week in Maths, we will be focusing on fractions. We will be moving on to fractions and identifying their equivalent decimals.

This week in English, we will be focusing on writing in the role of a character to complete a diary entry. The children will be applying their previously taught skills.

This week in Year 5, we are continuing to fine-tune our division skills in maths. In art, we are looking at colour palettes and how colour can convey emotion in preparation for a final, emotive piece.  We will be learning about rites of passage in RE, focusing on bar mitzvah and bat mitzvahs and, of course, we are looking forward to celebrating Comic Relief and Red Nose Day with our whole school science day.

This week, we will be empathising with Londoners who experienced the blitz during World War 2. We will be writing a newspaper article based on the day after the first night of bombing. In science, we will be continuing our understanding of evolution.
