Week Beginning: 23 November 2020

RECEPTION

This week we are exploring the story of Hansel and Gretel. We will be working together to make a gingerbread house and role playing our own sweet shop. We will also be exploring rhyming words to make our own witches potions, adding things such as a rat, cat, bat, hat, mat etc. In Maths we are exploring 2D shapes and talking about their properties.

YEAR 1

This week year 1 continue to extend their writing into sentences using and or but, whilst enjoying the adventures of Traction Man and Scrubbing Brush his pet dog. In maths we are exploring bridging through 10 or 20 when we add 1 or 2 digit numbers. The weather forecast is for colder weather, so be sure to wrap up warm in extra layers that you can wear in the classroom as we continue with our recommended ventilation!

YEAR 2

This week in Writing, we will be starting a new book linked to our History topic. We will be focusing on different end marks and how to use them correctly and we will be using our previous noun phrase (adjective to describe the noun) knowledge when writing independently. 

 

This week in Maths, we will be moving onto fractions! We will be focusing on 1/2, 1/4, 3/4 and 1/3 of a shape or a number.

 

In History this week, we will be carrying on looking at Christopher Columbus with a focus on the transport he used when exploring and where he explored too! 

 

In Science this week, we will be looking at food chains and linking our previous knowledge of herbivores, carnivores and omnivores to  help us!  

YEAR 3

In Maths recognising and showing, using diagrams, equivalent fractions. We are also comparing and ordering fractions. 

In English we will be looking at fronted adverbials and how to incorporate them into our writing. 

YEAR 4

This week in year 4, the children are exploring the life of Kamala Harris and her recent achievements.  We will be looking at the influences in her life and how it helped her to get where she is today.  In maths, we will be focusing on fractions and using our catch up sessions to sharpen our addition and subtraction skills. Please, as always, continue to read with your child every night and discuss the texts that they are reading.

YEAR 5

This week, Year 5 will be learning to calculate the area and perimeter of regular and composite shapes. In English, we are learning about the lives of Ruby Bridges and Kamala Harris, identifying how times have changed in their lifetime and writing in chronological order. In History, we will be learning the story of the Maya's creation and in Science we are investing the effects of air resistance.

YEAR 6

This week, we will be learning about how the Tudors (known as 'Torturing Tudors') punished criminals. Some of the punishments were used to humiliate the guilty person. During science, we are investigating different materials to find out which ones conduct electricity. In our SPaG lessons, we will be learning about different punctuation we can use.
