In the run up to the last few weeks of half term, our new topic is celebrating and learning about Chinese New Year, Children will learn about the tradition of the story and how each of the 12  animals features in it. This year we celebrate the year of the dragon.

In maths we will be focusing on addition by counting all the objects to find the whole. Please may we remind you to support your child by reading daily. Please return all books by Wednesday of each week.  PE sessions for Oak will now fall on a Thursday, a gentle reminder to label all your childs clothing.

YEAR 1

This week, in Maths, Year 1 will be continuing to solve addition problems and will also continue to look at measurements using hand spans, steps and cubes.  In English, we will be retelling the story of Finn McCool, through role play and writing main clauses which links to our Geography topic, countries in the UK, with the focus being on Ireland.

YEAR 2

Year 2 will be writing a diary about our new book, Rainbow Bird in English. In Maths, we will be finding fractions of amounts. In Geography, we will be learning about the indigenous people of Australia and in Science we are investigating transparent and opaque.

YEAR 3

This week in Year 3, we are very excited as we will be holding our DT day! For this, the children are welcome to bring in any extra materials that they think might be suitable to help them with their creation, which will be to design and build a playground. However, this is not a requirement and all children will be given a range of materials to use, provided by the school. In maths we will be focusing on equivalent fractions, so if you would like to give your child a head start and practice at home that would be great! Finally, we would really appreciate it if you would help us with your child's reading by listening to them read each day and signing and sending in their reading record with them in the morning. We look forward to seeing you all at parents evening in a few weeks time.

YEAR 4

This week in Maths, we will be looking at discrete and continuous data in statistics.

This week in English, we will be recapping our direct speech knowledge (inverted commas).

Reminder: Outdoor PE with Mr Morris is on Tuesday now, starting this week (30th) and DT Day is on Friday, please can we have your junk modelling? Thank you.

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we will be using powerful vocabulary to improve a text and editing writing for errors in tense and punctuation. In maths, we will be adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators and will learn how to multiply fractions.

In science, we are investigating whether the temperature of a solvent (water) has an impact on how quickly a solute dissolves.

YEAR 6

This week, we will be comparing a country in South America with the UK. We will be identifying ways in which the two are similar and different. This could be through the land size, the climate or languages spoken. In writing, we are going to be investigating a mysterious event that took place in the peaceful town of Shooters Hill, Preston. Once we have gathered as much information as possible, we will be writing thought provoking news articles.
