Week Beginning: 5th February 2024

NURSERY

This week will be continuing our topic on space as the children have really enjoyed it. We will be covering light and dark .

We will be reading "Aliens love underpants " at the request of one of the children.

In maths we will be matching patterns and looking at one more than.

On Friday we will be celebrating Chinese New year, this year is the year of the dragon.

RECEPTION

Well, we have reached the last week of the half term already!  This week we are continuing with our celebration of Chinese New Year. 

The children will be writing a list of ingredients for making their fortune cookies and consolidating what they have learnt about the festival so far.

In Maths we will be revisiting one more and one less than a given number and practising adding two numbers together by counting all of the objects.

YEAR 1

This week we will be looking at the story 'Coming to England', we will be writing persuasive letters using adjectives, verbs and nouns.

In Maths we are exploring shape and preposition.

A polite reminder to please read with your child every day and to sign their Reading Record ready to bring in the following day. 

YEAR 2

Year 2 will be writing fact files about Australian animals in English. In Maths, we will be adding money and finding change and learning about 2d shapes. In Geography, we will be learning about the physical features of Australia and in Science we are learning the properties of solids. 

YEAR 3

This week in English we will be bringing together all the skills we have learnt this half term  and using them to create some amazing diary entries! In maths we will be collecting our own data and turning it into bar charts. Please remember to sign your child’s reading record each night. 

YEAR 4

This week in Maths, we will be recapping on our Geometry knowledge by sorting 2D shapes into venn or carroll diagrams. We will also be introducing the children to lines of symmetry. 

This week in English, we will recapping our conjunction knowledge to write a letter back to Bromley Council to persuade them to use the children's play park design (DT Day). 

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we are continuing with our work around fractions and also using our calculation skills to find missing angles in 2D shapes. In English, we will be showcasing our learning in Year 5 so far when we rewrite a well known children's story for an older audience focusing on our descriptive language to create atmosphere. In science, we will be identifying chemical changes that are reversible and we are learning about Canada and the Inuits in our North America unit of geography. 

YEAR 6

This week, Year Six are taking part in their second official TKAT Mock SATs week. 

The tests will take place on Monday - Spelling, Tuesday - Reading, Wednesday - Arithmetic + Maths reasoning. and Thursday - Maths Reasoning + SPaG. 

We ask that the children are all in on time as our tests will begin at 9:00

All of the children have been working really hard and this is a chance for them to showcase how amazing they are. 

During the week, we will be continuing with our DT project on creating a shelter for a refugee.
